What is SLM Bodywork?

SLM stands for Steve Lockhart’s Myotherapy

SLM stands for Steve Lockhart’s Myotherapy; it is a hands-on form of bodywork influenced largely by ancient Eastern healing techniques. SLM Bodywork involves manipulating the body’s soft tissue using a unique combination of acupressure, myotherapy and massage techniques.  The length and function of the muscles is restored and the body balanced, allowing it to function normally.

Can SLM Bodywork help me?

As you go about your daily activities, some joints and muscles have to work harder than they should and some work less.  Over time the body starts compensating for this uneven state and you start to lose flexibility, and often gain weight, as your circulation slows.  As the imbalance increases at some point you will end up experiencing some pain.  What starts out as a small problem builds up over time and before you know it a chronic pain condition has surfaced which can have a debilitating impact on your daily life.

How does it work?

The techniques in the SLM method are designed to diagnose and fix the critical imbalances by restoring muscle tone and function to all parts of the body. This in turn realigns the skeleton and releases the pressure from the joints, allowing the pain and inflammation to disappear.

SLM bodywork treats the entire body as a whole continually moving around stimulating flaccid muscles through various nerve lines and applying myotherapy techniques to release tight muscles, restoring length and function to permanently contracted muscles.   It works at a deep structural level, quite differently to a normal deep tissue or remedial massage.

Most conventional treatments these days treat symptoms whereas your SLM Bodywork will get to the root of the problem.   As an SLM Practitioner I am also trained to recognize where your body requires attention to diet and/or exercise; I can advise clients on the lifestyle changes they could make to help support the Bodywork therapy.  Due to this holistic approach SLM Bodywork is highly effective in the majority of cases.

 What conditions can it treat?

SLM Bodywork can be used to treat a wide range of conditions quickly and effectively including:

  • upper back pain
  • Lower back pain / sciatica
  • Tight and painful shoulders
  • Stiff neck and/or headaches
  • Lack of flexibility / low energy

If you suffer from an acute or chronic pain condition then you should feel the difference massage can make in your life!
